flickr, please implement Facebook Connect
Posted on | April 13, 2009 |
I just came home from a trip to Washington DC & New York City the other day and while I was organizing my photos over at flickr I noticed that very few of my pictures from the trip had received comments. And the photos that actually have comments have very few.
Since few comments is the usual case I didn’t think about it more until I, during the weekend, met many friends saying that they followed my trip via Facebook and watched my flickr feed closely. Why did they comment a lot on my status updates via Facebook and not on my photos over at flickr? Because photos are a less interesting social object, I think not.
Flickr has simply not reached critical mass among my friends. And registering just to add a comment is too much of a hassle. I could always just start using Facebook for my pictures instead but I don’t really want to. I really love flickr and think It’s superior to all other photo sharing sites out there and I’d much rather upload my pictures there than on Facebook. But photos are so much more fun when friends comments on, loves or hates them. So, flickr, please implement a way for people from facebook (and google btw) to comment on my pictures. I know that Facebook Connect is easy to implement and I’m sure it would increase interaction throughout the site.

This is so true, I think that would be a killer.
The photos I’m uploading to facebook getting a lot of comments but not the ones I upload to flickr. Sadly but true.
Another cool “connetiveness” would be if the photos I upload to flickr automatically become uploaded to facebook…

Exactly, and it’s sad for everyone, including flickr.
Yeah, that would be something. But it has to be really well done to work. Combined stats, comments etc. I don’t want to go to two places. Right?

Well, I don’t know. My status updates at facebook are not the same as the one I have on twitter etc. It’s a strength that I have different networks on different sites, the audience at facebook is in many ways more personal than the one at flickr.
