New and improved CitySounds.fm

Posted on | August 22, 2009 |

A month has passed since we released CitySounds.fm during Music Hack Day. The response has been absolutely amazing, and the server actually crashed one morning from all the requests :)

Yesterday we released a new version of the site and  there is quite a lot of new stuff, we think the site has gotten a lot cooler and hope you do too. Here are some highlights:

Permalinks
All cities now have their own page on the site. Try for example Berlin or Tunapuna. On these pages you can listen to more tracks from the city, see it’s most popular genres and easy listen to a shuffled playlist. So if you missed your city on the top 30 list, just try it out in the browser!

Listeners
the-music-of-amsterdam-on-citysoundsfm-1If you like a city you can register yourself as a listener by tweeting the link to it. So if you tweet let’s say http://citysounds.fm/stockholm, your avatar and tweet will be visible under the “Listeners” section on the Stockholm page. This is a good way of supporting your hometown. We will later also introduce a “Listeners top list” as an alternative way of seeing which cities that are popular.

Random city and more from a country
On each city page there is a button that teleports you and your ears to a random city in the world. And if you wonder how other cities in the same country sounds, we have gathered the most popular ones on the right side. You can also embed a link to a random city on your blog, just link to http://citysounds.fm/random and your visitors will hear music from a random city!

We hope you like the update and if you want to keep updated consider following us on Twitter.

Enjoy the music!
