Dopplr translates footprints to Hummer usage
We survived yet another hack sprint and this time the result is a web app (and an API!) that aims at explaining the real value of a kg of CO2. The idea was inspired by Dopplr who translates each users yearly carbon footprint into usage of Hummer vehicles. We wanted to extract this so that people could use it for more than just footprints as well as adding more conversions. We named it Carbon.to. Along with the simple web interface we launched a API that exposes all the conversion data so that webservices that contain CO2 data easily can display it in a more understandable way. For example apples, mobile phone charges or loafs of bread. Read more about our API at carbon.to/api.
Please send us any feedback or ideas that you have and sorry for it still being a bit buggy, but bare with us, we will try to iron them out this week. Finally, a huge thanks to the EcoMo team for putting up the hack and for giving us the runners up prize.

Just plain awesome. You guys came along with a very cool idea and succinctly created a very nice site in 24hours, well done. You have inspired me for how to go forward and approach a hack day I’m going to next weekend called Charity Hack - http://charityhack.org/.

[...] Love Stockholm next week. It’s a small carbon converter that we hacked together at EcoMo in London last year. We’re showing it off, explaining the concept and tell tourists and other visitors [...]
